Buddy the Bum

Based on Buddy the Bum played by Jacob Rouse

Buddy The Bum In the shadowy embrace of midnight, the city streets whispered secrets that only the dark could understand. The moon hung low, casting its pale light on the narrow alley where an old man shuffled. His face, weathered by time and hardship, was half-hidden beneath the hood of a faded blue sweatshirt. He pushed a rusted cart before him, the wheels creaking a mournful dirge as he moved. The alley was littered with debris, but the old man’s destination was clear—a lone dumpster, painted a deep, ominous red. It stood out against the gray brick walls like a bleeding wound. With trembling hands, the man began unloading black bags from his cart, each one hitting the ground with a dull, unsettling thud. He worked methodically, placing each bag inside the dumpster with a care that suggested something more than simple refuse. Across the street, a woman sat on a bench, her attention half on her phone, half on the desolate surroundings. The rhythmic thudding from the alley caught her ear, pulling her gaze from the screen. She squinted through the dim light, her curiosity piqued by the old man’s peculiar ritual watching him beside a wall, watching in silence. The last bag remained in the cart as the man paused, sitting on a cracked crate beside the dumpster. From within the bag, he produced a battered can of beans and a tarnished spoon. He ate in silence, the only sound the soft clink of metal against metal. But then, his hand dipped into the bag again, searching. He started to hum, The spoon emerged, with something wet and gleaming in the faint light—a human eye. The woman a gasped, her breath catching in her throat as the realization hit her like a physical blow. She watched in horror as the old man raised his head, his sunken eyes locking onto hers. Gave a wink, He held the spoon aloft, the eye widened, almost as if he were offering it to her. his face, his eyes gleamed in the moonlight. Before the woman could react, the man sprang to his feet with an agility that belied his age. In an instant, they crossing the street, the eye still in his hand, his ragged breath echoing through the empty night. She scrambled to her feet, heart pounding, but the old man was faster. She tripped. He reached her, the smell of decay and something far worse clinging to him like a shroud. His hand shot out, and in the next moment, she felt his cold, bony fingers against her skin. Licking her face. The alley’s silence was shattered by her scream, a sound that reverberated through the narrow streets before being swallowed by the night. The sound .. a thud
